“My sorcery involves psychological induction. I can track a person by their brain waves. And when I'm close enough I can mess with them a bit, just like now...to call up their trauma.” ― The sorcerer explains his technique.[source]
The Trauma Sorcerer was a sorcerer allied with the Clone Sorcerer, who ambushed Chihiro and Char upon learning of the bounty Genichi Sojo had placed on them. His sorcery involved the usage of psychological induction, which allowed him to track people's brain waves and invoke people's traumatic memories once close enough to them.
He was a minor antagonist in the Vs. Sojo Arc.
Appearance
The Trauma Sorcerer was a man of above-average height, roughly equal to his ally the Clone Sorcerer. The front part of his hair was done up in a topknot, while much of the back was strewn about in strands. He wore a white shirt with wide sleeves over a black turtleneck, along with black pants with white stripes on the side, secured with a black belt.
Personality
The Trauma Sorcerer was an arrogant man who regarded his abilities incredibly highly. After forcing Chihiro's trauma upon him, he willingly gloated of the details of his abilities. However, the Trauma Sorcerer also held a degree of pragmatism, quickly focusing on securing the bounty (Char and Enten) in order to claim the money and shutting down the Clone Sorcerer's request to eat Char in order to make the message clear to his comrade. The Trauma Sorcerer was also incredibly sadistic, taking joy from driving his victims insane before killing them, and mocking Chihiro's state after he had been subject to trauma. He also showed no hesitation in breaking Char's leg, and was willing to continue testing her regeneration, a further display of his sadism.
Relationships
Clone Sorcerer: The Trauma Sorcerer and the Clone Sorcerer held enough trust in each other to ally in order to pursue Chihiro's bounty. Their casual discussions indicated a level of familiarity between the two, implying they have worked together on previous occasions.
Brother: The Trauma Sorcerer was close with his younger brother, who possessed the same sorcery as he did, and they shared the same sadism in driving their targets insane before killing them. The Trauma Sorcerer's brother was deeply affected by his brother's death, to the point of leaking Chihiro's location to Genichi Sojo in order for his brother to be avenged.
Plot
Background
Sometime before the present, the Trauma Sorcerer learned the rumour regarding eating the flesh of the Kyonagi Clan granting immortality was false, instead borne from the Kyonagi Clan's regeneration capabilities.[1]
Vs. Sojo Arc
The Trauma Sorcerer used his ability to track brain waves to quickly locate Chihiro and Char after Sojo posted his bounty, and the Clone Sorcerer acted on this information to confront Chihiro first.[2] Before confronting Chihiro, the Trauma Sorcerer instructed his brother to watch his battle, in order to see that even bearers of Enchanted Blades would be powerless when confronting their trauma.[3]
The Clone Sorcerer used his clones to herd Chihiro and Char into an alleyway and surround the two, giving cover for the Trauma Sorcerer to reach in and use his sorcery to incapacitate Chihiro and Char.
In the four seconds that followed, the Clone Sorcerer grabbed onto Char while the Trauma Sorcerer positioned himself in front of Chihiro. As Chihiro shook himself out of the memory and noted Char had also been affected, the sorcerer responsible gloated that his sorcery was able to track people's brain waves as well as trigger their traumatic experiences by manipulating their brain. The Clone Sorcerer, surrounding the area with a legion of clones, wondered if they should eat Char due to her being the last surviving member of the Kyonagi clan. The Trauma Sorcerer shut him down immediately, saying the money Sojo offers is their priority and adding the rumour of eating a Kyonagi's flesh leading to immortality is false. Instead, the Kyonagi simply had incredibly powerful healing abilities, which the Trauma Sorcerer tested by breaking her limbs. The two were unsure about Sojo's motives in utilizing this power.
The Trauma Sorcerer turned to pick up Enten but Chihiro drew his wakizashi and sliced off the Trauma Sorcerer's sword-holding right arm. The Trauma Sorcerer was surprised Chihiro could still move and Chihiro stated the memory of that day was what fuelled him. He switched out his wakizashi for Enten and activated Nishiki, his resulting boost in strength and speed allowing him to swiftly behead the Trauma Sorcerer, subsequently killing the Clone Sorcerer and his clones.[4]
The Trauma Sorcerer's little brother had watched the confrontation covertly, and was deeply affected by his brother's death, immediately seeking out Sojo the next day in order to tell him Chihiro's whereabouts (which he had deduced using his brainwave tracking) and request that he kill Chihiro. Sojo agreed and moved to kill him as well as a warm up, and despite the brother calling up Sojo's trauma Sojo ignored it and killed him anyway.[5]
Abilities
Overall Abilities: The Trauma Sorcerer is a skilled sorcerer who has adept mastery over his abilities. He believed himself capable of fighting a bearer of an Enchanted Blade, displaying confidence in his abilities. While his physical abilities were nothing special, his psychological manipulation allowed him to grievously incapacitate his enemies if he got close to them, even the likes of the bearer of an Enchanted Blade. In order to nullify his physical weakness, he used the clones generated by the Clone Sorcerer to get close to Chihiro. Additionally, his ability to track brainwaves made him skilled at searching for specific people.
As a sorcerer, the Trauma Sorcerer has accomplished the first stage of spirit energy usage, being able to use his spirit energy to strengthen his body to superhuman levels, though he seems to have neglected reinforcing his body with spirit energy in favour of primarily relying on his sorcery.
Sorcery
The Trauma Sorcerer reaches out to affect Chihiro.
Psychological Induction: The Trauma Sorcerer possesses several abilities relating to one's psyche. He can track people by their brainwaves, allowing him to easily find specific individuals like Chihiro and Char. He can also manipulate a person's brain in order to bring their traumatic memories to mind, but must reach out his hand to within grabbing distance of their head in order to do so. The memories are brought to forefront so rapidly and forcefully that the victim feels like several hours have passed, when in reality it has only been a few seconds. Depending on how damaging the trauma and the victim's ability to endure trauma, the invoking of trauma can have a severe effect one one's psyche to the point of driving them insane or it may have barely any effect at all. The Trauma Sorcerer used this to incapacitate Chihiro and Char, and implied he has done it to many other people in the past.[6]
The Trauma Sorcerer's brother shares the same sorcery as he does, being able to track brainwaves and surface traumatic memories.[7]
