Tobimune (
Overview[]
Tobimune was forged in response to the Seitei War over 18 years ago, as a weapon to assist Japan in the war effort. Seiichi Samura was chosen to wield the blade. After the war, Tobimune was returned to Kunishige alongside the other Enchanted Blades and Kunishige went into hiding. Three years ago, the Hishaku attacked the Rokuhira residence, the Hishaku Sorcerer, Uran and Hokuto's puppet killing Kunishige and stealing the six Enchanted Blades, Tobimune included.
On the 9th of November, Hiruhiko was assigned to attack the Sanso that housed the Enchanted Blade bearers other than the Master Swordsman.[1] With Kokugoku Hot Spring and Senkutsuji Temple, the Sanso of Yoji Uruha and Seiichi Samura respectively, as Hiruhiko's targets, Hiruhiko used his sorcery to form paper butterflies that carried Kumeyuri and Tobimune high in the sky.[2] During the attack on Senkutsuji Temple, Hakuri Sazanami registered Samura and used his contract with Tobimune to transport Tobimune to Samura, who used the blade to fend off the attackers in an instant.[3]
Samura maintained control of Tobimune afterwards, using Owl to monitor Japan for spirit energy signatures on par with an Enchanted Blade, cancelling it after sensing Chihiro and Hiruhiko activate Enten and Kumeyuri at the Kyoto Bloodshed Hotel.[4] In the ensuing battle, Chihiro managed to inflict a crack in Tobimune's blade, but Samura immediately repaired it using Suzaku.[5]
Abilities[]
Tobimune manifesting spirit energy in the form of feathers assembled as wings
As an Enchanted Blade, Tobimune is a katana constructed from Datenseki. Tobimune is activated by calling its name, which forms feathers in the air around the wielder. As with all Enchanted Blades, Tobimune amplifies the spirit energy inside its bearer to such an extent that it can no longer be contained inside the bearer's body, and instead concentrates into a mass of spirit energy.
Tobimune manifests spirit energy in the form of black feathers. The feathers formed from Samura's amplified spirit energy vary in how they are manifested; typically they are seen simply appearing in the air, though they can be manifested in the form of wings, giving the user the ability to fly.[6][7] As manifestations of Samura's spirit energy, Samura can use them to sense his surroundings, gaining a finely detailed 'vision' of the environment around him.[8]
According to Chihiro, Tobimune was originally forged for a support role.[9]
During the Seitei War, Samura accessed the True Realm and altered Suzaku through his desire to assist others, allowing him to bestow the flames' healing properties on others, not just himself.[10]
Tobimune has three abilities, which are indicated by its feathers:
- Crow: Allows the user to exchange the location of themselves or Tobimune with any feather.
- Owl: Summons large owl eyes in the sky that can detect spirit energy signatures of varying strengths.
- Suzaku: Spreads fire which heals the user and harms enemies.

Suzaku (
- External Suzaku*: An extension technique of Suzaku where instead of damaging other people using its flames, Samura causes the flames to heal other people instead, and recover the state of damaged, destroyed or altered objects - including Tobimune itself.[24][25] When imbued into Tobimune, Suzaku's healing flames can be implanted into those cut by the blade, which can revive them even after death.[26][27] This use of Suzaku has been noted by both Chihiro and Uruha to be beyond Samura's capabilities from the Seitei War, which at the time were incapable of resurrecting the dead.[27][28]
