Tamaki Sazanami ( (さざなみ) (たま) () Sazanami Tamaki) is one of the four members of the Sazanami Clan's Special Forces known as the Tou.

She is a minor antagonist in the Rakuzaichi Arc.

Appearance

Tamaki is a young woman standing at a slightly taller height than her brother and fellow Tou member Tenri. She has white hair mostly tied behind her head, with a few strands falling loose underneath, and additionally has a hairclip and hair covering one eye. She typically dons the Tou outfit; a black vest over a white dress shirt with black pants.

Personality

While Tamaki is as dedicated to the Rakuzaichi as her fellow members of the Tou, she is much less serious than they are, casually kneeling on a chair while the rest of her siblings were adopting more serious positions during their guarding of the Naginojoen doors at the 208th Rakuzaichi.[2] Tamaki has been seen to be more slow to the uptake relative to her siblings, not understanding their non-standard posting in front of the doors at first and freely asking questions to the other Tou members.[3] In the midst of combat, Tamaki drops her casual attitude, recognising the severity of such situations.[4]

Relationships

Family

Kyora Sazanami

As head of the clan, Tamaki respects Kyora's decisions, obeying his commands such as when summoned to confront Chihiro and Shiba at the Sazanami estate. She is not above questioning his decisions, such as during their guard post at the Naginojoen, though said questions were more fuelled out of genuine curiosity rather than scepticism.

Tenri Sazanami

Being fellow members of the Tou, Tamaki and Tenri work together to defend the Sazanami Clan and the Rakuzaichi. When Tamaki wondered about their non-standard posting on the 208th Rakuzaichi, Tenri patiently answered her questions with his own explanations.

Enji Sazanami

As fellow members of the Tou, Tamaki and Enji work fluidly in battle, coordinating attacks in turn and together. After Tenri's death, Enji immediately went to wake Tamaki and the two both decided to engage the intruders after learning the emergency door was broken, Tamaki standing by Enji's decision.

Plot

Background

Tamaki was born 22 years ago. As with all members of the Sazanami Clan, Tamaki was raised to serve the clan and the auction above all else from a young age. At some point in time in the past, Tamaki was promoted to a member of the Tou.

Rakuzaichi Arc

When Chihiro and Shiba attacked the Sazanami Estate to pry information regarding Shinuchi from Kyora, Tamaki was summoned alongside Tenri and Enji to his father's side. Kyora asked why Soya was not present and Tamaki relayed (incorrectly) that he was sick, Tenri correcting her and stating Soya was likely out looking for Hakuri. Tamaki, Tenri and Enji then prepared to engage Chihiro, activating Isou.[5] Kyora announced they were the hunters now, and as Shiba proposed retreating to Chihiro his phone began ringing, Shiba immediately teleporting to Hinao at Chihiro's insistence. The battle moved outside the building as Tamaki, Tenri and Enji readied blades and attacked Chihiro, who activated Nishiki. Kyora quickly followed after sipping some tea.[6]

Chihiro and the Tou's battle begins

The Tou begin battling Chihiro

Tamaki aimed slashes at Chihiro but Chihiro neatly dodged after slashing through Tenri's blades. After dodging one of Enji's shockwaves, Chihiro turned back and knocked Tamaki to the ground. Tamaki rushed in again but was knocked down once more, and with her blades broken Tamaki called out to Kyora for a larger sword. Tenri baited Chihiro into attacking him before using a shockwave to halt his momentum and leave Chihiro in place for his siblings to attack, Tamaki readying her newly acquired sword and Enji a shockwave. Shiba then teleported in with Soya, who was readying a shockwave of his own, Enji and Soya's clashing shockwaves sending them in opposite directions while Chihiro parried Tamaki's assault.

The four Tou members prepared to attack again, but were interrupted as Kyora summoned Hakuri, having realised his role in allowing Chihiro and Shiba to arrive. Holding him hostage, Kyora then agreed to a trade with Chihiro; Hakuri for Enten. Following the trade, Chihiro, Hakuri and Shiba left the estate.[7]

One week later, on the day of the Rakuzaichi, Kyora assigned the Tou to the corridor leading to the Naginojoen door rather than their usual position on the stage. Tamaki and her siblings debated the reasoning, and concluded that it was likely in case of intruders such as Chihiro Rokuhira, who was likely to know about the door, though Tamaki was confused why Kyora hadn't simply told them outright. Hakuri then poked his head out on the other end of the room, prompting Soya to chase after him while the remaining three Tou members were suddenly faced with Shiba's presence, and prepared to engage him.[8]

The three Tou members fought hard but were ultimately overpowered by Shiba, Tamaki being knocked out.[9] After Tenri's death due to his usage of Datenseki, Enji presumably informed Chihiro, Shiba and a descending Hakuri how to open the door. He then went back to an awakening Tamaki, and as she asked about the intruders he informed her that they were heading to the emergency door, the two quickly leaving to stop them before they could enter the Storehouse. The two entered the Naginojoen only to see the same sight as Chihiro, Shiba and Hakuri: the emergency door had been destroyed. Tamaki and Enji were shocked to see that what they had been protecting was broken the entire time, wondering why Kyora wouldn't have told them.

With no other choice, Tamaki and Enji decided not to let Tenri's death be for nothing, preparing to activate Isou. The two ran forth and Shiba shouted to his allies that they should retreat, though Hakuri instead told him to transport himself and Chihiro the auction hall.[10] With Chihiro and Hakuri gone, Shiba handily defeated Tamaki and Enji once more, with Shiba holding Enji by the collar and Tamaki struggling to stand. Enji choked out for Shiba to kill him, as he could never face Tenri should he survive. Shiba refused, telling the two of them to go back to the Sazanami children still living on the estate in order to ensure they didn't undergo the same fate as Tenri.[11]

Abilities

Overall Abilities: Tamaki is a distinguished sorcerer from the Sazanami Clan, a family renowned for its powerful sorcery, and is a master of her family's signature technique, Isou. Tamaki is a member of the Tou, distinguishing her status as one of the family's four best sorcerers.[12]

As a sorcerer, Tamaki has accomplished the first stage of spirit energy usage, being able to use her spirit energy to strengthen her body to superhuman levels.

Sorcery

Isou ( () (そう) Isō): As a member of the Sazanami Clan, Tamaki is able to use the family's signature technique, which allows her to create and manipulate shockwaves.

Equipment

Bladed Weaponry

During her first fight with Chihiro, Tamaki wielded two blades to clash with Chihiro. After Chihiro broke her swords, Tamaki requested a larger blade from her father, who provided one from the Storehouse. She appears to prefer bladed weaponry over Isou, in contrast to her older brother Enji who prefers the opposite.
