The Storehouse (
Overview[]
The Storehouse was created by the first head of the Sazanami, who was able to manipulate space through sorcery. Using this sorcery, he engineered the Storehouse and established the Sazanami as an auction-running family.[1]
The Storehouse is described to be an infinitely extending subspace created by sorcery that is used as a sacred storage space by the Sazanami Clan, inside of which is a giant 'island' floating within the space. Atop the 'island' are various voxel-like surfaces that host various 'registered' objects. The registration process itself is unknown, but appears to be applicable to items as well as people, as all Sazanami Clan members are registered in a ceremony at birth. Sorcerers are able to detect the registration.[2] Most objects inside the Storehouse are Rakuzaichi auction items and encased as a result.
The only objects that are not encased are various weapons that can be summoned for combat purposes and the Emergency Access Door; an insurance put in place by the Sazanami Clan to ensure that if the owner of the Storehouse dies before ownership can be passed on using the ceremony, the Storehouse can still be accessed. Within the Storehouse, the emergency door appears as a floating door in space. Its counterpart in the real world is located within a sealed room inside the Naginojoen, the Sazanami Clan's ancestral graveyard, located on the bottom floor of the auction house.[3] The Naginojoen is also where leadership of the clan and thus ownership of the Storehouse is passed down in a ceremony.[4]
Hakuri Sazanami possessed the same space-manipulation sorcery as the first clan head, and unconsciously managed to develop a subspace of his own, though the 'island' contained within was far smaller than the Storehouse passed down through his family's clan heads. Within this subspace were multiple objects that Soya Sazanami had used to physically abuse Hakuri over the years; all of which had 'mysteriously disappeared'. The vast majority of Hakuri's spirit energy had been used by Hakuri to maintain the Storehouse, but Hakuri was able to reallocate this spirit energy upon becoming aware of his subspace. The two Storehouses are not located within the same subspace.[5]
While normally if a Storehouse manager dies, only access to the Storehouse will disappear, certain external influences on the Storehouse manager such as the mental attacks of Magatsumi can cause the Storehouse itself to fragment and disintegrate.[6]
Abilities[]
The owner of the Storehouse gains access to the following abilities regarding the Storehouse. While accessing the Storehouse and using any of the following abilities, a black discolouration covered by a white eyepiece materialises over the Storehouse owner's left eye.[7][8]
- Registration: One of the fundamental abilities of the Storehouse. The owner must touch the item or person they wish to register in order to register them. The registration can be counteracted by sorcerers, as the registration will be overridden by any spirit energy used to oppose it. Items imbued with foreign spirit energy cannot be registered; but on the other hand, items imbued with the spirit energy of registered sorcerers are registered as well.[9] The two Storehouse registrations are separate; a Storehouse manager is unable to interact with another's registered items and people without first registering it to themself.
- Free Entrance/Exit: Sazanami Clan leaders can enter or exit the Storehouse without being registered or using the emergency door, through appearing out of the earth.[10][11]
- Transportation: After registering an item or person, the Storehouse manager can transport them into or out of the Storehouse at will and place them wherever they choose; the chosen item or person emerging from and disappearing into black clouds or bubbles. This is used by Sazanami Clan leaders to retrieve any Rakuzaichi auction items as well as move their subordinates around quickly.[12]
- Entities taken from the Storehouse can be summoned far away from the Storehouse owner themselves, as seen when Kyora summoned a stabilised piece of Datenseki near Tenri while Kyora was on the Rakuzaichi stage and Tenri was next to the Naginojoen door.[13]
- One owner of a Storehouse can deposit objects or people into another owner's Storehouse. Hakuri was able to transport first pliers from his own Storehouse and then Chihiro into Kyora's Storehouse.[14]
- Registered entities can also be moved around within a Storehouse.[15][16]
- Image Projection: The user can project holographic images of anything within the Storehouse to the real world or a different location within the Storehouse. This was first used by Kyora to display a holographic image of Shinuchi to Chihiro Rokuhira.[17]
- Communication with Registered People: The Storehouse owner appears to be able to speak to any people they have registered over any given distance, and can hear their voices as well; even if the registered individual is within the Storehouse, as was the case when one of Kyora's children audibly declared he had finished feeding the people to be auctioned and was then teleported out.[18][19] The Storehouse owner also retains awareness of a registered individual's surroundings to a degree, as seen by Kyora supporting Tenri with ease during the latter's battle with Shiba far away.[20]
- Subspace Manipulation: Sazanami Clan heads can freely manipulate the earth within their Storehouse. Kyora did so in order to attack Chihiro when he invaded.[21]
