Makoto Kasahara (笠原 (かさはら) (まこと) Kasahara Makoto) was a member of the Kamunabi's Anti-Cloud Gouger Special Forces, a squadron of six elite sorcerers who were tasked with opposing Genichi Sojo and his Enchanted Blade Cloud Gouger, serving under Ikuto Hagiwara's command.

He is a supporting ally in the Vs. Sojo Arc.

Appearance[]

Kasahara is a tall man standing roughly similar to Sojo in height. His hair is typically seen in a clean bowl cut. A black stripe stretches under his eyes and over the bridge of his nose, the cause of which is unknown. Kasahara typically dons the standard Kamunabi uniform, resembling a modern black haori kimono over a white dress shirt accompanied by black pants fastened with a black belt.

Personality[]

Kasahara is a stoic and pragmatic individual, preferring not to speak or display much emotion. Even when being shocked by one of Sojo's Mei attacks, Kasahara did not make any visible or audible signs of pain, merely grimacing as he endured the lightning strike.[1] Once he had taken possession of Cloud Gouger, Kasahara did not break into confidence like Hagiwara did, but maintained his neutral composure as he reported his seizing of Cloud Gouger.[2]

Relationships[]

Anti-Cloud Gouger Special Forces[]

Kasahara is on good terms with his squadmates, who trusted him to conduct individual scouting in search of Sojo's newest base of operations. In combat against Sojo, he worked fluidly alongside his squad to attack Sojo and execute their plan, coordinating well enough to land a severe blow against him. In Kazane's recollection, Kasahara was seen smiling warmly at him, indicating a favourable relationship.

Plot[]

Vs. Sojo Arc[]

When Sojo and Chihiro were fighting in the streets, Kasahara arrived with the Anti-Cloud Gouger Special Forces (barring Kazane) as well as Togo Shiba and Azami, Kasahara hanging onto a building with an enlarged hand. Their combined presence dissuaded Sojo from attacking and Sojo left after throwing up a cloud of mist with Kou.[3]

Five days afterwards, when Hagiwara and his squadron were meeting and planning with Chihiro, Kasahara was searching for the location of Sojo's newest base.[4]

More than 49 hours afterwards, Kasahara and his squad tracked Sojo to a bathhouse and engaged him.[5] Harima sent pieces of the ground into the air and moved them towards the ocean to prevent damage to civilians, while Kazane protected her as she did so. Following the strategy his comrades had planned with Chihiro, Kasahara continuously attacked Sojo alongside Uzuki, Kugara and Hagiwara, Kasahara attempting a smash from above using his large hands, but Sojo was able to dodge all of the attacks the Kamunabi threw at him.[6]

Sojo then unleashed Kou, spraying water over the surrounding area including over the four attacking Kamunabi members, before using a Mei with little charge. Kasahara took this attack and fell to the ground, as did his comrades, and Sojo used the opportunity to begin charging Mei. When Sojo was nearly finished charging, Kasahara jumped into the air alongside his comrades at Hagiwara's command. Hagiwara then unleashed Jikai onto the ground, cracking the earth, the impact also sending Sojo and the water flying into the air, just as Sojo unleashed a fully-charged Mei, which flowed uselessly through the water around him, to Hagiwara's glee. Kasahara, Uzuki and Kugara then rushed Sojo down, taking advantage of the 10-second interval they now had before Sojo could use Mei again.[7]

As Hagiwara called Kugara towards him, Sojo cast Yui, the water in the air flash-freezing and spiking upwards at the three Kamunabi. Kasahara and Uzuki flew towards Sojo, Uzuki throwing two poles in front of Sojo while Kasahara landed and held Sojo in place, attempting to root Sojo in place and drag Cloud Gouger out of his hands, even as Sojo began crackling with lightning. Uzuki threw two more poles behind Sojo and then activated Jobaku, binding Sojo in ropes of black energy that streamed out of the poles.

From far off, Hagiwara then cast Jikai to utilise the lightning radiating off of Sojo to launch Kugara towards him like an electromagnetic cannon. As Kugara launched Sojo off the floating earth, Kasahara grabbed Cloud Gouger, reporting to Hagiwara, who landed near him. Seeing they held possession of Cloud Gouger, Hagiwara proclaimed they should have a much easier time, and prepared to jump in with Uzuki to finish Sojo off.[8]

At that moment, the still-crackling Sojo cast Mei, Cloud Gouger responding and also crackling with lightning. The attraction force between the two sources of lightning sent Sojo flying upwards to his blade, eviscerating much of Kasahara and Kugara's sides, before catching Cloud Gouger in his mouth.[9] In the ensuing battle, Sojo easily managed to defeat the Kamunabi.[10] Kasahara was confirmed to have died in the battle.[11]
