Kumeyuri (
Overview[]
Kumeyuri was forged in response to the Seitei War over 18 years ago, as a weapon to assist Japan in the war effort. Among a number of swordsmen including Natsuki Misaka, a 17-year-old Yoji Uruha was chosen to wield the blade. After the war, Uruha returned Kumeyuri to Kunishige per his request, and Kunishige went into hiding, taking the Enchanted Blades with him. Three years ago, the Hishaku attacked the Rokuhira residence, the Hishaku Sorcerer, Uran and Hokuto's puppet killing Kunishige and stealing the six Enchanted Blades, Kumeyuri included.
On the 9th of November, Hiruhiko was assigned to attack the Sanso that housed the Enchanted Blade bearers other than the Master Swordsman.[1] With Kokugoku Hot Spring and Senkutsuji Temple, the Sanso of Yoji Uruha and Seiichi Samura respectively, as Hiruhiko's targets, Hiruhiko used his sorcery to form paper butterflies that carried Kumeyuri and Tobimune high in the sky.[2] After the attack on Senkutsuji Temple, Samura killed Uruha and implanted the flames of Suzaku into him using Tobimune, ensuring he would revive sometime later with his contract with Kumeyuri broken. [3][4] At roughly the same time, Hiruhiko dropped Kumeyuri near him and formed a contract with the blade.[5]
Due to Samura's monitoring of Enchanted-Blade-level spirit energy signatures using Owl, the Hishaku quickly sealed Kumeyuri and Hiruhiko did not use it.[6] On the 14th of November, during the Hishaku's attack on Kyoto Bloodshed Hotel, Hiruhiko activated Kumeyuri in response to Chihiro activating Enten, shortly before Samura arrived at the hotel with Tobimune active.[7] At the end of the battle, Hiruhiko's left arm was slashed off and he was soundly defeated before being evacuated by Toto and Kuguri.[8] Before Samura could reach down and grab Kumeyuri, Ro took it in hand himself. Samura noted the sheath should have fallen two floors down.[9]
Abilities[]
Kumeyuri manifesting spirit energy in the form of faceless geisha-like figures
As an Enchanted Blade, Kumeyuri is a katana constructed from Datenseki. Kumeyuri is activated by calling its name, which summons faceless geisha-like figures around the wielder. As with all Enchanted Blades, Kumeyuri amplifies the spirit energy inside its bearer to such an extent that it can no longer be contained inside the bearer's body, and instead concentrates into a mass of spirit energy. Kumeyuri manifests spirit energy in the aforementioned faceless figures.
During his battle against Chihiro and Samura, Hiruhiko tapped into the True Realm in order to weaponise his natural lack of care for objects, usually a detriment to his object manipulation through Play, in order to use the technique to simply destroy objects instead.[10]
Kumeyuri has three abilities, which are performed by its geisha-like figures:
- Banquet: Generates hallucinations that affect all senses.
- Play: Manipulates nearby objects.
- An as-of-yet unknown third ability. Hiruhiko contemplated using it during his three-way battle against Chihiro and Samura.[11]
