Kiyohiko Uzuki (
He is a supporting character in the Vs. Sojo Arc.
Appearance
Uzuki is a notably short man with short, black spiky hair who wears a unique mask over his mouth and nose. Uzuki typically dons the standard Kamunabi uniform, resembling a modern black haori kimono over a white dress shirt, combined with a white scarf.
Personality
Relative in particular to most of his more eccentric colleagues, Uzuki is far more level-headed and maintains a calm demeanour, rationally covering the facts during his squad's meeting with Chihiro. Uzuki is far from emotionless, being just as surprised as Kugara and Hagiwara when Chihiro told them to deliberately take one of Genichi Sojo's attacks.
Relationships
Ikuto Hagiwara
Uzuki and Hagiwara are among the more rational of the squad, being the ones mainly responsible for retelling the Kamunabi's perspective on the current situation to Chihiro and Shiba. Hagiwara placed enough trust in Uzuki to leave finishing Sojo off to the two of them.
Kazane Machi
When Kazane spoke up against Chihiro, Uzuki was quick to explain or otherwise brush over his words in favour of continuing rational discussion.
Chihiro Rokuhira
Uzuki was well aware of Chihiro's capabilities and reminded Hagiwara of them as a factor in any plans they might concoct. He spoke with Chihiro evenly, aiming to reach a logical conclusion on what course of action they should decide against Sojo.
Plot
Vs. Sojo Arc
When Sojo and Chihiro were fighting in the streets, Uzuki arrived with the Anti-Cloud Gouger Special Forces (barring Kazane) as well as Togo Shiba and Azami. Their combined presence dissuaded Sojo from attacking and Sojo left after throwing up a cloud of mist with Kou.[1]
Five days later, on the 12th of October, Uzuki would arrive with his squadmates minus Makoto Kasahara at the hospital where Chihiro was being treated. Ikuto Hagiwara loudly told his squadmates to be quiet given they were in a hospital, and Uzuki repeated the same in a calmer tone. When Kazane was upset at Chihiro's demand to be included in the plan, Uzuki excused him to Chihiro and explained he was a new addition and tended to be upset upon seeing young individuals with potential. He then told Hagiwara to keep in mind that thanks to Chihiro, no civilians were injured during Sojo's rampage. After hearing Chihiro wouldn't be in full form until a month later, Uzuki told him that they wouldn't be waiting that long, and had already been searching over the five days since the battle.[2]
After Hagiwara made a deal with Chihiro as to how they would approach Sojo, the group moved to the hospital's roof. There, Chihiro told them of Cloud Gouger's three abilities. When Azami informed Hagiwara's squad that the six of them would be the only ones confronting Sojo, Hagiwara explained that the Kamunabi couldn't throw all of their fighting power in one area, Uzuki adding they had many other concerns, like the Rakuzaichi and the Hishaku.[3]
The male Kamunabi members present later took a collective bathroom break, and Chihiro followed in order to continue the discussion. Like his colleagues, Uzuki was confused when Chihiro told them they needed to let Sojo hit them with the Kou-Mei combination attack. At Uzuki and Kugara's prompting, Chihiro then elaborated they needed to let Sojo buy time to perform a fully-charged Mei, as it would leave Sojo wide open. Hagiwara and Uzuki affirmed that they would hit Sojo with a barrage of attacks in order to lure out the Kou-Mei combo and the fully charged Mei.[4]
More than 49 hours afterwards, Uzuki and his squad tracked Sojo to a bathhouse and engaged him.[5] Shiyumi Harima sent pieces of the ground into the air and moved them towards the ocean to prevent damage to civilians, while Kazane protected her as she did so. Following the strategy his comrades had planned with Chihiro, Uzuki continuously attacked Sojo alongside Kiyohiko Uzuki, Hajime Kugara and Hagiwara, but Sojo was able to dodge all of the attacks the Kamunabi threw at him.[6]
Sojo then unleashed Kou, spraying water over the surrounding area including over the four attacking Kamunabi members, before using a Mei with little charge. Uzuki took this attack and fell to the ground, as did his comrades, and Sojo used the opportunity to begin charging Mei. When Sojo was nearly finished charging, Uzuki jumped into the air alongside his comrades at Hagiwara's command. Hagiwara then unleashed Jikai onto the ground, cracking the earth, the impact also sending Sojo and the water flying into the air, just as Sojo unleashed a fully-charged Mei, which flowed uselessly through the water around him, to Hagiwara's glee. Uzuki, Kugara and Kasahara then rushed Sojo down, taking advantage of the 10-second interval they now had before Sojo could use Mei again.[7]
As Hagiwara called Kugara towards him, Sojo cast Yui, the water in the air flash-freezing and spiking upwards at the three Kamunabi. Uzuki and Kasahara flew towards Sojo, Uzuki throwing two poles in front of Sojo while Kasahara landed and held Sojo in place, attempting to root Sojo in place and drag Cloud Gouger out of his hands, even as Sojo began crackling with lightning. Uzuki threw two more poles behind Sojo and then activated Jobaku, binding Sojo in ropes of black energy that streamed out of the poles.
From far off, Hagiwara then cast Jikai to utilise the lightning radiating off of Sojo to launch Kugara towards him like an electromagnetic cannon. As Kugara launched Sojo off the floating earth, Kasahara grabbed Cloud Gouger, reporting to Hagiwara, who landed near him. Seeing they held possession of Cloud Gouger, Hagiwara proclaimed they should have a much easier time, and prepared to jump in with Uzuki to finish Sojo off.[8]
At that moment, the still-crackling Sojo cast Mei, Cloud Gouger responding and also crackling with lightning. The attraction force between the two sources of lightning sent Sojo flying upwards to his blade, eviscerating much of Kasahara and Kugara's sides, before catching Cloud Gouger in his mouth.[9] In the ensuing battle, Sojo easily managed to defeat the Kamunabi.[10] Uzuki was confirmed to have died in the battle, having been slashed around the upper midsection.[11][12]
