Char Kyonagi ( (きょう) (なぎ) シャル Kyōnagi Sharu) is a major supporting character in the manga series Kagurabachi and a central figure during the Vs. Sojo Arc. She is a young orphan living on the streets who has reportedly seen an enchanted blade.

Initially introduced as a witness seeking sorcerer protection due to a pursuer she cannot afford to pay for, she claims her pursuer wields a formidable sword that might be an enchanted blade. Although Chihiro Rokuhira and Togo Shiba are initially skeptical, Chihiro learns more about her situation after treating her to soba. It is revealed that her pursuer, Norisaku Madoka, a sorcerer who caused an explosion at the soba restaurant, is acting on Genichi Sojo's orders. Sojo was pursuing Char due to her heritage as a member of the Kyonagi Clan.

Appearance[]

Char is a young, ragged-looking orphan girl with short light blonde hair who appears to be in poor condition. By the time she meets Chihiro and Shiba, the rumbling of her stomach indicates she has not had any food for a while. She wears a dirty looking shirt and black skirt. After being taken in by Chihiro, she now wears new clothes, including a jacket, but due to her arms being too small for it, she sometimes swings them around like propellers.

Personality[]

Although Char seems to have experienced life on the streets for a significant period, she exhibits an abundance amount of vitality. She readily expresses excitement, particularly when the topic involves food. Additionally, she tends to keep her thoughts concealed, refraining from sharing information about her pursuers until Chihiro persuades her to do so during a meal of tempura soba.

Plot[]

Vs. Sojo Arc[]

Before the events of Chapter 3, Char entered Cafe Haru Haru seeking protection from a pursuer who was after her. Hinao, despite Char not having any money to pay, provided her with assistance, allowing her to stay in the back room of the cafe to sleep based solely on her claim of witnessing someone wielding a strong sword. Upon the arrival of Shiba and Chihiro, Shiba refused Char's request for help, as he doubted the credibility of her words due to the lack of evidence.[1]

When Char woke up, she initially believed that Chihiro and Shiba were the sorcerers who would protect her. However, Shiba quickly dismissed this assumption and began questioning Char about her pursuer. Char remained silent, causing Shiba to question the authenticity of her claims regarding the enchanted blade. Upon discovering that Char was an orphan, Shiba mentioned the possibility of sending her to an orphanage.[2]

Chihiro inquired if Char had eaten recently, and her growling stomach provided the answer. Char requested 'Tempura soba,' prompting Chihiro to purchase it for her. While at a soba shop, Chihiro managed to gather information about the enchanted blade, particularly that it produced clouds. This information led Chihiro to reconsider Char's story.

Suddenly, Norisaku Madoka entered the scene and caused an explosion while seizing Char. Chihiro prepared to confront him and rescue Char.[3]
