“Sorcery and the Enchanted Blade” ( (よう) (じゅつ) (よう) (とう) Yōjutsu to Yōtō) is the fourth chapter of the Kagurabachi manga series, written and illustrated by Takeru Hokazono.

Summary[]

Chapter 4-1

Chihiro is focused on formulating a plan, with his main priority being to rescue Char.

While confronting Norisaku Madoka, Chihiro is focused on formulating a plan, with his main priority being to rescue Char. However, Norisaku insists that his only interest is in Char and advises Chihiro not to interfere. Suddenly, Chihiro draws his sword with a swift motion, calling its name Enten and using Kuro to cut the rope binding Char. This surprises Norisaku, recognising the slash as being comprised of spirit energy. Chihiro urgently calls for Shiba, who promptly arrives and uses his sorcery to teleport Char to safety in his car. Witnessing Shiba's teleportation, Char asks if he was using sorcery.

Shiba informs Char that anyone can harness sorcery through enough time and effort, as it is powered by spirit energy, which essentially constitutes one's life force and resides within every human. Meanwhile, Chihiro continues his ongoing battle with Norisaku using his goldfish, astonishing Norisaku.

Chapter 4-2

Shiba discusses the unique properties of the Enchanted Blades

In the car, Shiba elaborates on the enchanted blades, explaining that they amplify a person's spirit energy to such an extent that it cannot be contained within a human body and is instead manifested in shapes, in Enten's case taking the form of a goldfish. This transformed energy surpasses what a sorcerer can produce individually.

While Norisaku defensively observes Chihiro's fight, he also notes Enten's spirit energy manifestation; where sorcerers consume spirit energy as a resource to power their supernatural effects, Enchanted Blades such as Enten attack using spirit energy itself.

Chapter 4-3

Norisaku identifies Enten's status as an Enchanted Blade and relishes being able to fight one

Norisaku informs Chihiro that he has encountered an enchanted blade before, but this is his first encounter with someone wielding such a weapon in combat. While conversing with Chihiro, he becomes aware of Char's presence nearby. In response, Norisaku shouts to Char, warning her that if she doesn't emerge obediently, many innocent lives may die, just like her mother did.

Char becomes frightened upon hearing this, prompting Shiba to comfort her by placing his hand on her head. He reassures her, urging her to trust in Chihiro. However, her anxiety heightens when she witnesses Chihiro being thrown back by an explosion, triggering painful memories of her mother's demise.

However, Char's hope is restored when Chihiro emerges from the explosions, having used Aka, a large red goldfish appearing and absorbing the damage from the oncoming explosions. He firmly asserts that he won't allow the sorcerer to harm Char.

Chapter 4-4

Chihiro uses Aka to counter Norisaku's Daruma

Chihiro then attempts to attack Norisaku from a distance using Kuro, but the sorcerer manages to evade it. In response, Norisaku unleashes explosive dolls to attack Chihiro. In a nimble move, Chihiro leaps into the air to evade the explosive onslaught. However, Norisaku surprises Chihiro by quickly moving behind him and ensnaring him with a rope.

Remaining composed, Chihiro aims his enchanted sword at the sorcerer and uses Aka: Invincible, expelling the absorbed explosion from the tip of the blade and defeating his adversary. Simultaneously, Shiba explains to Char Enten's ability to absorb and expel spirit energy using Aka. After this victory, Chihiro approaches Norisaku and interrogates him about his affiliations, reasons for targeting Char, and the whereabouts of another enchanted blade, Cloud Gouger.
