Barriers (
Overview[]
Barriers are commonplace within the sorcerer society of Tokyo, especially in areas considered important. The actual barrier itself is invisible, but its effects remain potent and can cover a large area. Essential to the construction of a barrier is a lantern (
Lanterns can also be used as a potent source of power to be used in certain spirit energy constructs, such as large-scale memory seals, and this power can be redirected from the barrier using the lantern's key.[3]
The actual function of a barrier varies from installation to installation, and can be configured to fit a specific purpose through unknown means. Of the barrier installations seen thus far:
- The barrier placed at the Rokuhira residence was set to alert Togo Shiba if its lanterns or zone was interfered with. It was destroyed by the Hishaku in a way that did not immediately alert Shiba.[4]
- The barrier set at Kamunabi Headquarters in Tokyo is extremely large and of rectangular shape, completely encasing the underground headquarters. Its strength is of such magnitude that the Hishaku Sorcerer struggled to break through it with his pine tree vines, vocally recognising its strength.[5]
- One of the barrier's latnerns is placed in a park, set to transport certain Kamunabi members into an elevator leading to Kamunabi Tokyo Headquarters once said members report their names and the barrier recognises their voices. Hiyuki Kagari and Tafuku Mihara used the installation after their first encounter with Chihiro Rokuhira.[6]
- The barrier placed around the Sazanami residence is set such that only Sazanami Clan members can detect it and enter it. Through information from Hakuri Sazanami, Chihiro and Shiba were able to enter the barrier-protected estate.[7]
- The barrier situated around the Kyoto Bloodshed Hotel completely prevents detection-based sorcery from tracking individuals within the hotel. The Masumi negotiated with hotel general manager Yojiro Sengoku to temporarily make use of its lantern (situated on the hotel's roof) to power their memory seal on Iori Samura.[8]
